THINGS TO LOOK FOR:

Be alert to the following communication milestones - notice they reveal themselves within an age range:

Between 13-18 months, your child should be able to:

Point to make a request, comment, or get information.

Identify one or more body parts.

Shake their head for "no" or nod their head for "yes".

Between 19-24 months, your child should be able to:
-
Use or understand at least 50 different words (may not always be clear - that is okay)

Follow two-step directions.

Use words like "me", "mine", and "you".

Between 2-3 years, your child should be able to:

Use word combinations often, e.g. "baby sit down".

Ask "why" and "how".
-
Use some plural words like "birds" or "toys".
